Layer: Setback Districts (ID: 404)

Name: Setback Districts

Display Field: SETBACK_NAME

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: The history of Setback Districts in Los Angeles County is somewhat obscure, and research is needed to better understand their origin and the purpose for which they were intended. There were 15 Setback Districts adopted between 1932 and 1955, of which 11 remain in the unincorporated area (the other four having been absorbed into city boundaries as a result of city incorporations, annexations, etc.). The original 15 Setback Districts are defined in the Los Angeles County Code. The ones that no longer exist are: No. 2 - West Hollywood; No. 10 - E. Compton Midland Precinct TR No. 4827; No. 11 - N.W. El Monte TR. No. 10821; and No. 15 - Lomita. This layer features the full outlines (multi-part polygons) of the district boundaries, aggregated from the SDE.DIST_DRP_SETBACKS_POLY layer. As noted above, updates to the original layer resulted in the number of Setback Districts being reduced from 15 to 11.Update History:6/20/16 - Imported into SDE.6/23/24 - Updated for the changes resulting from the East San Gabriel Valley and Metro Area Plan updates. These actions modified existing setbacks, and also corrected the data that had referenced the establishing setback map, but not the subsequent amendments.4/9/25 - Added 'Reduced Setback Areas' in Ladera Heights / View Park - Windsor Hills following the adoption of the Westside Area Plan.4/14/25 - the CSDs in the Westside Area Plan were reverted back to their original district boundaries as the proposed CSDs were removed per the Board of Supervisor's hearing, and hence, these should not have been published. These CSDs will be updated at a later time, and placeholders have been added in Title 22.
