Description:   Countywide layer which divides the County of Los Angeles into 11 unique areas for planning purposes of the unincoporated areas. The General Plan provides goals and policies to achieve countywide planning objectives for the unincorporated areas, and serves as the foundation for all community-based plans, such as area plans, community plans, and coastal land use plans. Area plans focus on land use and policy issues that are specific to the Planning Area. Community plans cover smaller geographic areas within the Planning Area, and address neighborhood and/or community-level policy issues. Coastal land use plans are components of local coastal programs, and regulate land use and establish policies to guide development in the coastal zone. Please refer to the Planning Areas Framework chapter in the General Plan here.UPDATE HISTORY10/9/14 - copied PLANNING_AREAS and updated boundary betwen proposed Antelope Valley Area Plan and Santa Clarita Valley Area Plan.11/24/14 - updated to include La Crescenta FROM San Fernando Valley TO West San Gabriel Valley.11/22/16 - updated from massive city boundary update per DPW data.11/20/18 - Updated for RPPL 2017005805 (adopted 10/30/18) for re-alignments between the unincorporated communities of Santa Clarita Valley and Antelope Valley (for plan amendment, click here).6/20/24 - Following the adoption of the East San Gabriel Valley Area Plan, the boundary between this planning area and West San Gabriel Valley was modified in the Pellissier Village area.
